Mac Get Space Privacy Policy
Mac Get Space is provided by Chan Baek (Culture & Tech), referred to as “we,” “us,” or “our.” This policy covers the Mac Get Space app from the Mac App Store, including Free and Expert, and explains what happens when you contact us or visit this policy page.
Mac Get Space processes your files on your Mac. It does not upload your files, file lists, scan results or cleanup reports to us. It has no Mac Get Space account, advertisements, tracking, or third-party analytics SDK.
1. Information processed on your Mac
Mac Get Space examines accessible locations to identify storage usage, explain cleanup candidates and carry out actions you review and approve. Depending on your permissions and enabled features, this can include:
- File and folder names, paths, sizes, timestamps, file identities and available disk space.
- Installed-app and running-process information used to identify an item's owner and check whether it is in use.
- Archive entries and relevant file contents used for protection checks and duplicate comparison. Duplicate verification reads file contents to calculate hashes.
- Local device-backup metadata, such as device name, model, software version, backup date and encryption status.
- Scan settings, excluded locations, protection choices, scan summaries, reviewed removal plans and operation results.
This processing takes place on your Mac. We do not receive this information through the app, sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to track you across apps or websites.
2. File access and authentication
The app asks you to grant access to your home folder through a macOS folder-selection dialog before scanning it. It stores a local access record so macOS can restore that permission on later launches. Some protected locations require optional Full Disk Access. Locations the app cannot read are reported as inaccessible.
Scanning does not remove files. Removal requires your review and approval. When the app requests Touch ID or your login password, macOS handles authentication. Mac Get Space receives the authentication result, not your fingerprint data or password.
3. Local storage, retention and your controls
The app stores settings, folder-access records, exclusions, the latest scan summary, duplicate-verification hashes, cleanup reports and an execution journal in its local macOS app container. It also remembers the last known Free or Expert state in local app preferences. Reports and journal entries can contain full file paths, item names, action times, outcomes and error details. These may reveal your Mac username or personal project names.
Reports and the execution journal have no automatic expiry. Settings and access records remain until changed or removed; the latest scan summary is replaced by later scans, and the hash cache may be replaced as it fills.
You can stop a scan and adjust scan settings in the app. To stop Mac Get Space from reading your home folder, choose Scan scope & permissions → Forget Access. The app asks again when access is needed. If macOS keeps the access it gave during the current session, Mac Get Space tells you and stops using it; quitting the app ends it. Forgetting access does not delete existing reports or scan settings. You can manage Full Disk Access separately in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.
Use Reports → Reveal to locate report files in Finder. After quitting the app, you can delete their text and JSON copies and, separately, the execution journal. You can also remove the app's stored data and preferences to reset its local records. Contact us if you need help locating them. Removing only the application may leave stored app data behind.
Mac Get Space does not provide its own cloud sync or upload for these records. Copies you make, share or back up are controlled by you and the services you choose. Review reports before sharing them.
4. Expert purchases and update checks
Expert is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple. The app uses StoreKit to obtain product information and verify purchase or restoration status so it can unlock Expert. It does not send transactions to a developer-operated verification server.
We do not receive your payment-card details or Apple Account password through the app. Apple's handling of account, payment and purchase information is described in App Store & Privacy.
Mac Get Space can check whether a newer version of the app is listed in the Mac App Store. It checks when you choose Check for Updates or Check Now. If you turn on Check for updates automatically, which is off until you do, it also checks when the app opens or when you return to it, at most once a day. Each check sends a request directly from your Mac to Apple's public App Store catalog with the app's App Store identifier and the two-letter code of your App Store country or region. The app does not add your files, scan results, reports, purchase information, account identifiers, or device identifiers to this request. As with any internet request, Apple also receives your IP address; Apple handles this information under the Apple Privacy Policy. We do not receive these requests or their results. The app stores this setting, the time of the latest check attempt, and the time and result of the latest successful check in its app container. Updates are installed by the App Store, not by Mac Get Space.
5. Analytics and diagnostics
Mac Get Space has no app-operated usage analytics or automatic crash-report upload service.
Apple may separately provide sales or transaction reporting to developers. See App Store & Privacy. Depending on your macOS sharing choices, Apple may also make crash or usage diagnostics available to us. Those choices are managed in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. See Apple's Mac analytics information.
We use crash reports and diagnostic information from Apple, and any copies we download, only to investigate bugs and improve Mac Get Space. We do not use them for advertising or tracking, we do not sell them, and we do not use them for unrelated purposes. Our copies stay on the Mac we develop Mac Get Space on and are not kept in cloud storage or backups. To investigate a bug, we may give parts of a report to an AI coding assistant; before we do, we remove anything that could identify you or your Mac, such as a user name in a file path. We do not give these reports to anyone else. We delete our copies without undue delay once the bug they relate to is resolved or we decide it needs no fix.
Records we keep because bookkeeping and tax filing require them, such as Apple's sales or transaction reports, are kept for five years from the day after the statutory filing deadline of the relevant Korean national tax for the tax period concerned, and records of offshore transactions for seven years from the same day. Where applicable law sets a different retention period, that period applies. These periods apply only to records required for accounting and tax purposes, not to support inquiries or diagnostic reports.
6. Information you send for support
If you contact contact@cultureand.tech, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message and any attachments you choose to send. We use that information to respond to your request and investigate the issue you report. Sending files or reports is optional; please remove personal information that is unnecessary for the request.
Our support correspondence is handled through Google Workspace (Gmail), provided by Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. and Google LLC. Your messages may be stored and processed outside your country, as described below. We do not sell this information. We share it only with the email service provider that delivers and stores our mail, or to the extent required by law.
Support messages and attachments in that mailbox are protected by the provider's security measures and two-factor authentication. On our side, access to that mailbox is limited to the privacy contact.
We keep support messages and attachments only while we need them to handle your inquiry. An inquiry is resolved when we have answered it and nothing more needs to be done for it; sending a first reply does not by itself resolve it. We keep the messages longer only for a follow-up that is actually needed, such as telling you when a fix for the problem you reported is released, not for routine reference. Once your inquiry is resolved and any such follow-up is complete, we delete its messages and attachments without undue delay, including from Gmail's Trash, together with any copies under our control that we downloaded, saved or forwarded.
Ordinary technical and usage questions are not kept as legal records. Where a law requires us to keep a record, we keep only the information that record needs, separately from the support mailbox, for the period the law sets. For example, where the Korean Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce applies, records of a consumer complaint or dispute are kept for three years.
Deleting a message from our mailbox does not immediately erase every copy from Google's systems. For a limited time after we delete it, a copy can still be restored through Google Workspace's administrator tools; we do not use these recovery copies for ordinary support work. Once deleted mail can no longer be recovered by us, Google deletes it from its systems within a maximum of 180 days under its data processing terms, unless applicable law requires Google to keep it.
Where support email is processed. We use overseas outsourced processing and storage for support email as necessary to enter into or perform a contract with you. We disclose these arrangements in this policy under Article 28-8(1)3(a) of South Korea's Personal Information Protection Act. The countries below are possible locations according to Google's published lists. The actual processing depends on the service and support task.
